Call for one POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP under the project “StreamLAB – Streamlined environmental and cost lifecycle assessment of building retrofits: a decision supporting tool”, Ref.: MIT-EXPL/SUS/0013/2017
The Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI-LAETA) announces the open call for one (1) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship (BPD) within the framework of the project: “StreamLAB – Streamlined environmental and cost lifecycle assessment of building retrofits: a decision supporting tool”,reference MIT-EXPL/SUS/0013/2017, funded under national funds by FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC), under the following conditions:
Scientific area: Engineering
Admission requirements: Ph.D. degree with experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) demonstrated by (co-)authorship of scientific articles published in ISI (Institute for Scientific Information) indexed journals. Experience in uncertainty analysis, operational research and/ or multicriteria decision analysis methods (e.g. data envelopment analysis) is an advantage.
- Collaborate in LCA studies;
- Collaborate in the methodological development of streamlined life cycle approaches and application of mathematical models for multicriteria decision analysis;
- Collaborate in the publication of reports and articles as well as in the various administrative tasks of the project.
Legislation framework: A grant contract will be celebrated according to FCT, I.P. Studentship and Fellowship Regulations in force (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT.pdf), and the Scientific Research Fellow Statute (Portuguese Law 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and by Law No. 12/2013, of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July).
Working place: The work will be carried out in the scope of ADAI-LAETA activities at ADAI’s laboratory, Coimbra, and the Center for Industrial Ecology, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Pólo II of Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal, or in other places required for the execution of the work plan.
Scientific supervision: Professor Doutor Fausto Freire.
Grant duration and regime: 6 months, potentially renewed up until the end of the project. The attribution of the grant is undertaken under an exclusive dedication/full time regime according to FCT, I.P. Studentship and Fellowship Regulations.
Expected starting date: December 2018 / January 2019.
Monthly allowance: The monthly allowance is €1495 in accordance with the values stipulated by FCT, I.P. Studentship and Fellowship Regulations (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt), plus the reimbursement of Social Security (Seguro Social Voluntário) expenses according to the Scientific Research Fellow Statute, in case the selected candidate chooses to adhere to that system. The monthly amount shall be rendered payable via bank transfer.
Evaluation criteria: The selection method to be used will be a curricular evaluation, using a one to five (1 to 5) assessment scale, with the following weights: academic qualifications (50%) and degree of fulfillment of experience and knowledge required (50%). Candidates may be shortlisted for individual interviews (20% weighting), if necessary, to evaluate the candidates’ experience and knowledge in order to carry out the tasks and the perspective of integration in the dynamics of the project’s research team and the Center for the Industrial Ecology (more information about the project: http://www2.dem.uc.pt/CenterIndustrialEcology).
In case the candidate placed in 1st does not accept the grant or in case he/she withdraws from the grant during the respective work program, the candidate placed in 2nd may be invited to accept the grant. This procedure may be repeated in subsequent cases of non-acceptance or withdrawal, according to the decision of the scientific supervisor, respecting the ordering of the list contained in the minutes of the selection process.

Publication/notification of results: The final evaluation results (ordered list) will be publicized in a public space of ADAI. The selected candidate will be notified by email.
Deadlines and Submission of applications: The call for applications will be open from the 25h of October 2018 to the 6th of January 2019.

- Copy of the MSc certificate, detailed academic transcripts (courses taken and respective grades) and other certificates that are deemed relevant for the application (accompanied by the respective official translation into Portuguese or English if the documents are not written in these languages);
- Digital copy of relevant publications.
Candidates with qualifications obtained abroad shall make proof that their Ph.D. was recognized by a Portuguese Higher Education Institution pursuant to Decree-Law no. 283/83, of June 21st, or otherwise registered under Decree-Law no. 341/2007, of October 12th, or provide evidence that they have requested this, until the end of the application process. This document (either recognition or registration) is mandatory to sign the fellowship contract.
