Call for one RESEARCH GRANT for MSc degree holder under the project “SABIOS – Sustainability assessment of bioenergy systems: a life cycle multi-criteria decision-supportapproach, including land use change”, Ref.a: PTDC/AAG-MAA/6234/2014 (POCI-01-0145- FEDER-016765)
The Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI-LAETA) announces the open call for one (1) Research Grant for MSc degree holder within the framework of the project: “SABIOS – Sustainability assessment of bioenergy systems: a life cycle multi-criteria decision-support approach,including land use change”, reference PTDC/AAG-MAA/6234/2014 (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-016765), funded under national funds by FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC) and co-funded by FEDER funds through COMPETE 2020 – Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalisation and PT2020, under the following conditions:
Scientific area: Engineering
Admission requirements: MSc in Environmental Engineering, other Engineering or related areas, with experience in Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) or related approaches (e.g Social-LCA, Economic-LCA, Life- Cycle Sustainability Assessment). Experience in sustainability assessment and/or Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis is an advantage.
- Collaborate in LCA studies of bioenergy systems;
- Collaborate in the methodological development of Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA);
- Collaborate in the publication of reports and articles as well as in the various administrative tasks of the project.
Legislation framework: A grant contract will be celebrated according to FCT, I.P. Studentship and Fellowship Regulations in force (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT.pdf), and the Scientific Research Fellow Statute (Portuguese Law 40/2004, of 18 August, as amended and republished by Decree-Law No. 202/2012 of 27 August, and as amended by Decree-Law No. 233/2012 of 29 October and by Law No. 12/2013, of January 29, and Decree-Law No. 89/2013 of 9 July).
Working place: The work will be carried out in the scope of ADAI-LAETA activities at ADAI’s laboratory,Coimbra, and the Center for Industrial Ecology, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Pólo II of Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal, or in other places required for the execution of the work plan.
Scientific supervision: Professor Doutor Fausto Freire.
Grant duration and regime: 4 months, potentially renewed up until the end of the project (or until the end of the funding period, if earlier). The attribution of the grant is undertaken under an exclusive dedication/full time regime according to FCT, I.P. Studentship and Fellowship Regulations.
Expected starting date: January/February 2019.
Monthly allowance: The monthly allowance is €980 in accordance with the values stipulated by FCT, I.P. Studentship and Fellowship Regulations (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.phtml.pt). The monthly amount shall be rendered payable via bank transfer.
Evaluation criteria: The selection method to be used will be a curricular evaluation, using a one to five (1 to 5) assessment scale, with the following weights: academic qualifications (50%) and degree of fulfillment of experience and knowledge required (50%). Candidates may be shortlisted for individual interviews (20% weighting), if necessary, to evaluate the candidates’ experience and knowledge in order to carry out the tasks and the perspective of integration in the dynamics of the project’s research team and the Center for the Industrial Ecology (more information about the project: http://www2.dem.uc.pt/CenterIndustrialEcology).
Candidates who do not obtain a final mark equal to or greater than 3.5 will not be allowed to fill the post in tender.
In case the candidate placed in 1st does not accept the grant or in case he/she withdraws from the grant during the respective work program, the candidate placed in 2nd may be invited to accept the grant. This procedure may be repeated in subsequent cases of non-acceptance or withdrawal, according to the decision of the scientific supervisor, respecting the ordering of the list contained in the minutes of the selection process.

Publication/notification of results: The final evaluation results (ordered list) will be publicized in a public space of ADAI. The selected candidate will be notified by email.
Deadlines and Submission of applications: The call for applications will be open from the 17th of December 2018 to the 6th of January 2019.

- Curriculum Vitae, with indication of telephone and email contacts;
- Copy of the MSc certificate, detailed academic transcripts (courses taken and respective grades) and other certificates that are deemed relevant for the application (accompanied by the respective official translation into Portuguese or English if the documents are not written in these languages);
- Digital copy of relevant publications.
Applicants with foreign academic degrees are required to submit the records of acknowledgment of such degrees and conversion of the respective final grades to the Portuguese grading scale (whenever a final grade was awarded to the foreign degree), issued by the Directorate General for Higher Education or by a Portuguese public higher education establishment (regime governed by Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of October 12th) or, alternatively, submit the document of acknowledgment/equivalence of the foreign qualifications to the corresponding Portuguese qualifications, issued by a Portuguese public higher education establishment (process governed by Decree-Law No. 283/83, of June 21st). This document is mandatory to sign the fellowship contract.
