ESA Angers and INRA Rennes
The USC Grappe (ESA-INRA, Angers) and UMR SAS (INRA, Rennes) research groups are seeking a highly-qualified post-doctoral researcher to work on a project investigating the potential of life cycle assessment (LCA) as a tool for eco-design of farming systems in France. The agricultural sector faces the triple challenge of ensuring environmental performance, product quality and economic competitiveness of their production systems. The evolution of farming practices towards better environmental performance of agricultural production systems is therefore subject to the ability to simultaneously consider these three issues. The main objective of this post-doctoral appointment will be to contribute to this evolution of farming practices by producing a methodological framework for the scaling-up of environmental assessment from the field to the farm using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
The postdoc will benefit from the resources of the Eco3Vic project (2017-2020, USC Grappe), which aims to produce a method for collective eco-design of wine growing systems. The postdoc will have full access to the MEANS software and database platform for multi-criteria assessment of agri-food systems (INRA), and contribute to its development. Furthermore, the ACV-Bio project (2017-2020, INRA), which develops life cycle inventory and LCA data of products of French organic farming systems, will provide valuable case studies for the postdoc. The successful candidate will join a group of eight scientists working on these projects.
Candidates should hold a PhD with a background in agricultural or environmental science, and have experience in LCA of agri-food systems. Excellent written and spoken skills in English or in French are a must.
The appointment is for a one-year period, with a provisional start date of January – February 2018. Candidates can apply by sending their CV, copy of their doctoral degree, publication list, letters of recommendation (optional) and a cover letter outlining their motivations before June 28 2017 to Hayo van der Werf ([email protected]).
Gross salary 2100 Euro/month. Candidates that are eligible to apply for an AgreenSkills+ fellowship may benefit from an additional mobility allowance ranging from 1300 to 1700 Euro/month, if their project proposal is successful. The next Agreenskills+ submission deadline for applications is on 13 October 2017, 24:00 CET.
