GE GRID GSI business is a combination of factories with products manufactured and the main part consist of multiple customer projects to install and perform commissioning of large installation for the GRID business in an Onshore and Offshore environment.
The Life Cycle Assessment Engineer leads development of the product environmental strategy for GE GRID GSI business, in line with customer and market needs.
This includes efforts to integrate environmentally driven insights into product and business decisions and standardize processes for the GSI portfolio (including products, services, and supply chain). The position requires previous knowledge and experience in LCA and eco-design to lead and implement product environmental process.
Additionally, the Life Cycle Assessment Engineer will have to develop the strategy around the ECI, Environment cost Indicator mainly based on the Netherland regulation that we will use for many projects and use in the company as a key indicator.
Life Cycle Assessment Engineers have an important role to play in designing our products with circularity and low-carbon footprint in mind: utilising more recycled materials into our products, reducing waste in our designs and our manufacturing, extending the lifetimes of our products, and developing materials and designs that can be more easily recycled. Each of these design changes will come with environmental, performance and cost trade-offs that we need to be able to quantify using digital tools. Furthermore, we need to be able to utilize these insights to make strategic decisions on our technology decarbonization and circularity roadmaps.
The role is global, cross-functional and needs to have a strong understanding of the entire GE GRID GSI Value Chain.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
As Life Cycle Assessment Engineer, you will:
- Lead integrate Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) into new product development, leveraging digital tools, as the basis for GE GRID GSI to set and measure progress towards ambitious targets on product environmental footprint and eco-innovation.
- Be responsible for the preparation of GE GRID GSI LCAs of products, services, customer projects, technologies, and supply chain in accordance with ISO standards.
- Be responsible for the deployment / calculation of the ECI (Environment cost Indicator) mainly based on the Netherland regulation, use in the company and for multiple customer project as a key indicator.
- Establish an Eco-design procedure as part of the NPI process by implementing tools, dashboards and KPIs that distill Eco data into actionable insights to inform design, planning, and implementation decisions.
- Establish, measure, and monitor product sustainability KPIs.
- Develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and lead the respective certification processes.
- Collaborate across teams including NPI team, Materials Engineering, Sourcing and Manufacturing to automate life cycle inventories from GE GRID GSI operations and supply chain.
- Ensure process alignment with GE GRID Product sustainability lead and wider GE’s LCA practitioners’ community.
- Partner with GE GRID GSI’s Communications and Commercial teams in developing communication materials related to product environmental assessment and customer product requirements.
- Communicate findings and recommendation to the wider Engineering, Sourcing and Manufacturing teams, translating environmental information into easily understood materials for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science, or a related field
- Master’s degree in engineering, Science or a related field
- Demonstrated years of experience in sustainability related area (including application of life cycle assessment or foot printing methodologies)
- Knowledge of quantification of environmental impacts and understanding of environmental science and issues related to the environment, circular economy, and eco-design as they relate to products and operations.
- Familiarity with life cycle assessment standards and guidelines (including ISO 14040/14044) and corporate sustainability standards.
- Familiarity with ECI Calculation methods
- Experience using life cycle assessment software and developing models.
