As Eastman develops and commercializes new sustainable products and technologies it is crucial to understand and leverage insights regarding the environmental benefits and opportunities using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
This position is for an experienced LCA expert to help enable Eastman’s sustainable growth commitments.
The job responsibilities are as follows:
1.) Complete environmental life cycle assessment (LCA) modeling for Eastman’s products, processes and competitive alternatives. This includes the calculation of carbon footprints and other LCA metrics.
2.) Advance and apply expertise in state-of-the-art LCA and emerging circularity metrics to generate value-adding results that embrace technical and market complexity.
3.) Contribute to development, testing and advocacy for next generation methodologies and standards.
4.) Partner with colleagues in marketing, businesses, HSES, manufacturing, corporate sustainability, company leadership and other functions to leverage LCA insights in order to drive growth, defend core businesses and equip the company to influence positive change.
5.) Lead projects with external consultants to achieve 3rd party certification of Eastman product LCA’s
6.) Directly support customers with LCA and technical sustainabilty expertise.
7.) Direct LCA work with university partners
8.) Represent Eastman with external stakeholders including policymakers, NGO’s, LCA expert peers and industry associations
Job Duties include computer simulation, proactive data collection from diverse sources, interpretation of LCA results, co-development of marketing messages, expert consultation with diverse stakeholders, providing strategic recommendations, effective communication at all company levels and direct customer support.
- BS (or higher) in Engineering or other technical scientific degree
- At least four years of direct experience as an LCA practitioner.
Preferred areas of experience (one or more):
- Industrial LCA experience (direct or as a consultant).
- Graduate degree is preferred but not required
- Must have outstanding interpersonal, communication, and team skills due to high degree of interaction and engagement with personnel across many organizations and roles.
- Demonstrated capability to complete precise and detailed LCA calculations, derive business-relevant conclusions and influence stakeholders.
- Strong customer focus
- Ability to solve complex issues and to manage uncertainty
