Website The University of Sheffield

Are you interested in helping the UK and the World meet net zero targets? Do you have skills in process analysis and sustainability assessment? We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to join our team, working across two flagship projects of international significance. The South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre brings together academics, industry, local authorities and third sector partners to provide evidence and co-develop solutions to regional and global sustainability challenges. UK-HyRES, the UK Hub for research challenges in hydrogen and alternative liquid fuels, aims to prioritise and find solutions to the major challenges for large scale deployment of hydrogen.

You will collect data, develop process models and assess sustainability of hydrogen production and deployment options. As part of this work, you will assess how a small to medium industrial cluster could decarbonise over the next 10-15 years and what part hydrogen will play. For this role, you should have a PhD degree or equivalent experience in chemical engineering, environmental engineering or management, or a similar subject. Proficiency in process analysis and/or life cycle assessment is vital.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with interdisciplinary teams and influence the route to net zero. You will be part of the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures, South Yorkshire Sustainability Centre and the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering. Working closely with project partners, you will have the opportunity to co-develop the research in a multidisciplinary environment. We are committed to providing a vibrant and inclusive environment for research.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development. We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
