About the role
Applications are invited for a highly motivated and ambitious Research Fellow to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers at the newly created Bath Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change (ISCC).
The Bath Institute of Sustainability and Climate Change integrates physical, social and systems science and engineering at Bath and develops leaders in tackling critical sustainability issues. Our work spans three core themes:
- Sustainable Chemical Technologies
- Sustainable Systems
- Social Transformations
The Sustainable Systems theme takes a whole-systems perspective to measuring and embedding sustainability in decision-making, using methods from industrial ecology to understand and reduce the environmental footprints.
We particularly welcome candidates with expertise in some or all the following areas of quantitative sustainability assessment:
- Life cycle assessment (LCA);
- Material flow analysis (MFA);
- Using methods in both research and commercial environments;
- Collecting primary data from stakeholders.
You will be expected to establish and pursue an independent programme of research within the theme of sustainable systems (further details here). This will include publishing in high-quality journals and securing external research funding.
As a Research Fellow you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the following core objectives of the Institute, by helping to:
- Establish a collegiate research culture, with a thriving, inclusive and connected research environment.
- Foster inter-disciplinary groups to establish cross-theme working.
- Lead engagement with a wide range of stakeholders relevant to the Institute’s work and representing the Institute at events.
Excellent technical, organisational and presentation skills are essential, as is the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary environment.
Interaction with a range of academic, policy and industrial partners will be expected.
Additional information
This is a full-time position, fixed term for 3 years initially with the expectation that this will be extended through securing funding.
