We are happy to share with you that the Life Cycle Initiative launched GLAM 1.0.2024.10 at the SETAC Europe 26th LCA Symposium in Gothenburg, Sweden. As highlighted during the launch, GLAM provides a globally consistent framework for assessing ecosystem, human health, and socio-economic impacts across product life cycles. The process to develop GLAM started in 2013 and the now launched GLAM 1.0.2024.10 is the result of a comprehensive and global stakeholder engagement process which involved diverse stakeholders, including industry, academia, NGOs, and government agencies. GLAM 1.0.2024.10 provides a standardized method to assess impacts on ecosystem quality, human health, and socio-economic assets (natural resources, ecosystem services). The launch version now also includes a consistent approach to classification, normalization, and weighting, enabling comparisons across regions. We congratulate the Life Cycle Initiative and all stakeholders involved on the successful launch of GLAM 1.0.2024.10. More information on GLAM is available here.
Today we are happy to share with you some impressions from our Life Cycle Summer School, which took place from September 19 – 22 in Berlin at the bUm Berlin. The Summer School was organized under the theme “Net Zero Carbon Challenges for Cities and Regions – Using life cycle approaches for sustainable solutions” and brought together students from all over the world. In this context we were thrilled to be able to provide three stipends for participants from emerging economies thanks to the contributions made by the Life Cycle Community to the Jim Fava Life Cycle Summer School Fund! Throughout the four days the Summer School offered a diverse and intense program of lectures, workshops and roleplays and covered various aspects of the overall theme. During the first day the concept of Net Zero Carbon was introduced alongside the life cycle toolbox. In addition, lectures covered examples of regions, cities and companies implementing net zero carbon strategies. On the second day participants learned more about Carbon Footprinting (CF), the relevant ISO standards and their application in regional organizations and companies. The third day covered topics such as sustainable public procurement and supply chain management approaches for net zero carbon […]
Today we invite you to join this year’s Life Cycle Summer School, which will focus on the theme “Net Zero Carbon Challenges for Cities and Regions – Using life cycle approaches for sustainable solutions”. The Summer School will be organized from 19.-22. September 2024 in Berlin. This Summer School is an opportunity for students, professionals and regional managers to learn how life cycle approaches and methodologies can help assess the sustainability of zero carbon solutions in general and emission reduction proposals in particular, with a strong application to cities and regions. The objective is to encourage use of promising LCM tools by stakeholders who have not so far employed these techniques extensively. This includes students, regional institutions, research teams and industrial associations that wish to enhance the effectiveness of their sustainability initiatives. LCSS 2024 is also aimed at young life cycle professionals and academics interested in broadening their knowledge on applying life cycle thinking to net zero initiatives. For students from Non-OECD countries we offer stipends thanks to the Jim Fava Life Cycle Summer School Fund. We are invite you to submit your applications now for our Life Cycle Summer School and learn more about our program. Apply for LCSS […]
