About the Role

What if your expertise in climate modeling, ecology, or environmental science could directly shape how AI understands one of the most critical domains of our time? We’re looking for Climate Data Specialists with advanced degrees to develop and evaluate complex, real-world environmental science problems — helping train the next generation of AI models to reason with scientific rigor.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers and domain experts who want to apply their knowledge at the frontier of AI development. No prior AI experience required — your scientific expertise is what matters most.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You’ll Do

  • Design, solve, and critically review advanced environmental science problems grounded in real-world relevance
  • Apply your expertise in climate modeling, ecology, sustainability, or related disciplines to create rigorous, complex problem sets
  • Evaluate AI-generated scientific reasoning for accuracy, depth, and methodological soundness
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to enhance model performance
  • Ensure scientific clarity, precision, and integrity across all deliverables
  • Work independently on task-based assignments at your own pace

Who You Are

  • Holds a Master’s or PhD in Environmental Science, Climate Science, Ecology, or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in at least one of: climate modeling, ecology, environmental sustainability, or earth systems science
  • Proficient in Python or R for research, data analysis, or modeling
  • Exceptional written communicator — able to explain complex scientific concepts with clarity and precision
  • Naturally detail-oriented with a rigorous, methodical approach to problem-solving
  • Self-motivated and reliable when working independently in an asynchronous environment
  • Fluent in English and based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or AI training workflows
  • Background in quantitative modeling, environmental data analysis, or computational ecology
  • Experience writing or reviewing peer-reviewed scientific content
  • Familiarity with AI tools or large language model evaluation as an end user

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, substantive scientific work
  • Apply your advanced degree to problems that matter — at the intersection of climate science and AI
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
