Event Details
We are delighted to invite you to the 3rd Edition of our Sustainability Insights series, hosted by the Forum for Sustainability through Life Cycle Innovation (FSLCI) on June 23–24, 2025, as a hybrid event in Berlin, Germany as well as virtually.
The event is organized under the theme “Beyond Reporting - Creating value by aligning Product and Corporate Decarbonization Efforts” and aims to provide key insights into Scope 3 reporting and the balance between product- and corporate-level decarbonization efforts. Additionally, we will address the upcoming revisions of the GHG Protocol and SBTi standards, which are currently under review.
Format
During this two-day, interactive workshop, we seek to provide a multi-stakeholder discussion space that brings together a wide-range of industry experts, consultants, academics, government representatives, and more. Through dynamic discussions participants will be encouraged to exchange their diverse perspectives, creating a collaborative atmosphere that enhances understanding of the challenges outlined above and drives actionable insights.
In addition to focusing on the critical link between corporate and product sustainability, we will offer an optional afternoon session on the second day of the workshop where we will explore a few discussion topics proposed by participants, giving them the possibility to co-create the agenda. This could include for example related topics such as Avoided Emissions (Scope 4) or Biogenic Carbon Accounting.
While we encourage participants to join us in Berlin to experience the best engagement on the subject, we also offer the option to join us virtually in order to enable a broad participation from all over the world. Much like with our other events, we offer a live-stream of any input sessions as well as a dedicated virtual discussion space for our virtual participants.

Key Discussion Topics
- Scope 3 Calculation & Accounting Challenges: The difficulties in accurately estimating Scope 3 emissions and the limitations of current spend-based approaches.
- Methodological Alignment of Scope 3 vs LCA Focus: The challenges and opportunities of aligning corporate Scope 3 accounting with product-level Life Cycle Assessment (LCA).
- Enhancing Data Accuracy: The value of LCA/PCF data to increase accuracy and consistency, why LCA-based data and spend-based data should not be aggregated to avoid inconsistency and why supplier-specific data is not always more accurate.
- Bracing for the Future: The need to develop life cycle literacy and decision-making frameworks to effectively use LCA data in product design, procurement, and manufacturing, as automation and AI cannot replace the necessary learning and structural changes for decarbonization.
- Actionable Recommendations: The opportunity to implement more targeted strategies that shift the focus of decarbonization efforts from reporting to actionable and impactful change.
Currently, the GHG Protocol is revising its Corporate, Scope 2, and Scope 3 guidelines to better align with new regulations and improve data quality, while SBTi is refining its net-zero standard—especially its approach to carbon credits—to ensure real emissions reductions. With both revision processes under way, it is a perfect time for the life cycle community to provide guidance on how to better align methodologies and approaches.
