Welcome to LCIC 2022
Following our last two conferences in 2018 and 2020, we are thrilled to announce that we will organize LCIC 2022 from June 29 – July 1. Like one of our conference participants put it: “LCIC is so much more than a conference. It’s a think tank!” And indeed, much like in the previous years, our objective is to create a unique space to think in creative and new ways about how to foster sustainability efforts around the world and link it to innovation processes.
Sustainability has become a mega trend in recent years and gained significant traction among decision-makers in industry and politics. The urgency to act swiftly was recently further underlined by the release of the IPCC’s latest Assessment Report 6. But besides Climate Change, significant progress on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals is required to reduce the impact on future generations.
During our Life Cycle Innovation Conference (LCIC 2022), we seek to promote a better world by taking a systems perspective to foster sustainable innovation. We will look at innovative approaches and methods to address sustainability challenges, but also showcase innovative products and services that will help us transition towards a more sustainable world.
Much like in 2018 and 2020, we aim to bring together a diverse crowd of change-makers, innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, practitioners and decision-makers who share our passion for sustainability – physically and virtually!
Having organized LCIC 2018 in Berlin and LCIC 2020 virtually, we are thrilled to announce that we have decided to combine both worlds and will be organizing LCIC 2022 as a hybrid conference. Building on our past experiences and the success of both conferences, we are convinced that we understand what it takes to create a unique event that provides a lot of value to both, physical as well as virtual participants.
We will build a program with dedicated elements for physical as well as for virtual conference participants so as to ensure that no matter where you are – in Berlin or somewhere else in the world – you will still enjoy LCIC 2022! We hope you are excited as much as we are about LCIC 2022 and invite you to submit your abstracts and workshop proposals now!

Join us for a truly unique conference in:
Prof. Dr. Dirk Messner
President of the German Environment Agency
Dr. Janez Potočnik
Co-Chair of the International Resource Panel
“I noticed that there were a lot of creative tricks in encouraging interactions, which I certainly enjoyed. Not having a microphone during the presentation, having all lunches vegetarian, and gala dinner was very unique. (…) I also liked the freedom of the barcamps, where you can do whatever you want to do with the attendees as long as you have a motivation. I think the barcamp system worked pretty well.”
“The overall atmosphere, based on connection and sharing expertise. The best I’ve ever seen in a conference. The diversity of formats: sessions, workshops and barcamps. The catering, both during the day and at the gala dinner, was really high quality”
“The great atmosphere, which was probably supported by the bar-camps and workshops. People were invited to be open and discuss freely and did so throughout the whole conference. And vegan chocolate muffins.”
“The conference was unique in its attention to and detailed choices on sustainability at organizational as well as at executive level: at the conference not only sustainability was discussed, but it was put into action by organizing a sustainable event.”
