Sustainability Insights 05 – Digital Product Passport

The Digital Product Passport is coming — and the life cycle community has a pivotal role to play in shaping what it actually means in practice.

From methodology and data quality to supply chain transparency, verification standards, and sector-specific implementation, the DPP touches nearly every dimension of our work. Yet the decisions being made right now — in delegated acts, harmonisation standards, and certification schemes — are largely happening without the depth of expertise our community brings to the table. That needs to change.

This two-day Sustainability Insights Workshop will bring together LCA practitioners, researchers, and sustainability professionals to engage critically and constructively with the DPP from a life cycle perspective. We'll examine where the current regulatory trajectory gets it right, where it falls short, and where the community must make its voice heard.

At LCIC 2026 in Berlin this July, we will dedicate a special session to collectively scoping the agenda — exploring which angles matter most to our community, from environmental data requirements and methodological coherence to circular economy linkages and SME readiness. The outcome of that session will directly shape the December programme.

This is not a workshop about compliance. It's a workshop about influence — and the window to exercise it is now.
