🌍 Introducing AWARE2.0 🌍
We’re excited to share AWARE2.0, an update of the AWARE method for assessing water scarcity impacts in LCA! AWARE2.0 calculated with updated datasets, comes with a refined calculation for river deltas, inland sinks, and subdivided river basins, and furthermore benefits from an improved representation of basin area, increased responsiveness of environmental water requirements to seasonal flow patterns, and a more appropriate water consumption definition. Why use AWARE2.0?

1️⃣ More Recent Data: Now using a 30-year period for a better reflection of current water availability.

2️⃣ Improved data consistency: Calculations are based entirely on WaterGAP2.2e for more reliable results.

3️⃣ Several smaller calculation improvements: E.g., smoother environmental flow curves and more realistic basin areas. These updates together deliver an improved version of the AWARE model, without changing the original consensus output, and help provide an updated assessment of water scarcity footprints.
