The accelerating use of natural resources is raising significant sustainability concerns. While several studies have proposed absolute limits to global resource use, often expressed in terms of aggregated resource extraction—there is still no consensus on how such boundaries should be defined. In particular, existing approaches do not consistently reflect key impact mechanisms, such as resource dissipation, nor do they clearly indicate how these boundaries can be operationalized within absolute environmental sustainability assessment (AESA) and life cycle assessment (LCA).
This webinar:
(1) investigates the relevance of defining absolute sustainability boundaries for natural resource use
(2) critically examines existing current proposals for resource use boundaries
(3) presents a systematic representation of impact pathways accounting for resource dissipation
(4) outlines perspectives for conceptually consistent boundary definitions.
