Anna Luthin
Research Assistant & PhD Candidate
RWTH Aachen & University of Melbourne
Since July 2020, Anna works as a research assistant (PhD) at the Institute for Sustainability in Civil Engineering (INaB). She is a Joint-PhD candidate at RWTH Aachen University and the University of Melbourne (Australia), focusing on integrating circularity and sustainability assessments. She studied Georesources Management at the RWTH Aachen University (B.Sc., M.Sc.) and specialized in environmental management. She spent a semester abroad at the Università degli Studi di Padova in Italy, where she studied the effects of climate change. Furthermore, she gained her first experience in energy management during an internship at Daimler AG. Anna’s current research focuses on LCA, LCC, and S-LCA in the context of the circular economy. She is an active member of the Center for Circular Economy (CCE) at RWTH Aachen University.

Robust monitoring and assessment methods are required to assess products and services in terms of their degree of circularity and their contribution to sustainability. Thus, circular life cycle sustainability assessment (C-LCSA) was developed as a holistic approach to consider both the technical circularity and the complexity of the three dimensions of sustainability (environment, economy, and social). In the webinar, the C-LCSA framework that applies in parallel life cycle assessment (LCA), life cycle costing (LCC), social life cycle assessment (S-LCA), and circularity assessment (CA) will be presented: C-LCSA = LCA + LCC + S-LCA + CA. The webinar also includes the presentation of the criteria for selecting appropriate circularity indicators, specifications for the application of traditional life cycle approaches in the context of C-LCSA (e.g., related to end-of-life allocations), and insights gained in the application of the framework depicted below.
