The Global Ecolabelling Network (GEN), GIZ Thailand and UN Environment are starting a project to support the Type 1 eco-labels by creating a knowledge sharing platform. The first step of the project is to understand the current situation of the existing and emerging eco-labels by mapping the existing and emerging initiatives and identifying the learning needs. Hence, they have launched a survey for those working on eco-labelling or are aware of other relevant initiatives/ stakeholders. To participate in the 5-10 minutes survey, please click here:

Ecolabels are useful tools for promoting the consumption of environmentally friendly products. By scholars and governments they are seen as an opportunity to create economic incentives for companies to take the stewardship of environmental protection. However, developing countries are often lacking the expertise to develop eco-label schemes and criterias. The project aims to help the new labels learn from successful examples as well as creating the environment for the emergence of new initiatives. The project is structured in three regional information exchange platforms are dedicated with Ecolabel Brazil’s lead in Americas, Ecolabel Sweden’s lead in Europe & Africa and Ecolabel Japan’s lead in Asia & Oceania.
