Interesting article by Colin Isaacs on the benefits of taking a life cycle perspective on product development and conducting an LCA.
Judging by the number of announcements in North America and western Europe of more environmentally responsible products and packaging, we are once again back to a time when brandowners believe that consumers will respond positively to environmental claims.
Regulators in both regions recommend, but do not require, that claims be scientifically substantiated through an evaluation protocol known as Life Cycle Analysis or, sometimes, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). LCA is not the only tool for evaluating environmental performance but it is certainly the most popular, especially in North America.
