Recently think tank SustainAbility and research consultancy GlobeScan published this year’s Sustainability Leaders Report. Interestingly, companies such as Unilever and BASF who were ranked high in the report are also front runners in applying life cycle assessment and life cycle thinking to enhance their sustainability performance.
The report is based on feedback from 816 sustainability experts in 82 countries on the question which company they thought best integrated sustainability into its business strategy. For the fifth year in a row Unilever, was ranked at the top, while Patagonia, who’s using life cycle thinking for communication, was ranked second.
Other companies who followed the two such as Interface, Marks and Spencer, Natura, Ikea and Nestle are also relying on life cycle assessment in their effort to enhance the sustainability of their products. .
Interstingly, as the Guardian concludes: “It seems that, for a growing number of experts, the question is no longer whether companies say the right things about sustainability, but whether or not they’ve made it part of their DNA.”
