Workshop 11: How to engage (non-expert) audiences with interactive quizzes in LCA presentations

Main Presenter: Pauline Ruiz

Co-Authors:Ángel Puente

Workshop Format: Short input by selected speakers; Roundtable

LCA practitioners often work with customers or research partners with variable LCA literacy, which makes explaining methodological choices particularly challenging. Moreover, results are often expressed using technical units (CO2e, CTUs or “points”), which may not facilitate the understanding of how harmful the environmental impact actually is. To overcome these challenges, the use of quizzes as audience activation and engagement method proved beneficial in our work. By organizing this workshop, we wish to share this experience by encouraging our peers to further develop this practice.
In the workshop, after an explanation of aim and agenda, the organizers will offer an input presenting a short quiz which serves as an example. Afterwards, participants can propose topics concerning methodologies or result communication, and work on related quiz questions in small groups (ideally 4 persons on-site). The organizers will share instructions on available online tools. In the last part of the workshop, the groups will present their quiz questions to the other participants, which will act as a test audience and provide feedback.
After the workshop, participants will have widened their LCA communication toolbox and will be able to apply new methods for engaging non-expert audiences in LCA and LCM related discussions.
