Workshop 12: Making a difference: Need of the hour is LCA that creates impact.

Main Presenter:    Karin Treyer

Co-Authors:   Agneta Ghose

The role of LCA and how it is done has evolved significantly in the past years. We need to use the momentum and reflect on how it can be best used in decision making such that LCA creates impact.
• Best practice examples: Where has LCA been implemented/become a standard process in decision making?
• Thinking of a perfect world: How would LCA be used in industry/policy and which impacts would it create?
• Have the needs with regards to LCA changed? E.g. PEF, digitalization, LCIA development, data accessibility&quality, software, open source information sharing.
• LCA study results:
1. How are they best communicated in view of complexity of LCA and LCIA methods, data quality, results robustness?
2. How can be ensured that the results are turned into action?
• Calculating results: What are the major gaps so that the quality of LCA studies is higher? Data accessibility, LCIA methods, supply chain information, software capabilities…
• What can we learn from other fields? To where and whom should we reach out and connect forces?

Workshop attendees will share their experiences and brainstorm. After a short input and a refreshing plenary discussion, we will work in groups (physical/online) to discuss on specific aspects and formulate action points.
