Transition LCA : why, what and how ?

Main Presenter:    Anne Ventura

Co-Authors:

Transition LCA is a new methodological frame that was proposed in 2022. It was defined in order to provide answers to questions on which product LCAs cannot answer.
The objective of the presentation is first to explain why product LCAs cannot be used to assess transition solutions, and that can be resumed by one sentence: “the LCA of the sum of all products is not the sum of all product LCAs”.
Then, the presentation will detail main aspects of transition LCA: how it differs from existing LCAs, the type of system model, which objectives can be addressed, the question of functionalities, the territorial aspects, the coupling with Material Flow Analysis, the implication of actors, and the prospective and dynamic aspects.
Finally, the key research issues necessary to implement this new frame will be presented.
