To achieve the goals of the European Green Deal, it is necessary to make products circular. This presentation explores circular economy (CE) strategies and how they can actively support businesses in meeting their current sustainability targets while contributing to the achievement of the European Green Deal’s objectives. It aims to bridge policy, standards, and business implementation by offering organizations a practical pathway to making their products circular.

Focusing on how CE strategies defined by international standards can be translated into practical measures, the presentation introduces and discusses key circular economy strategies such as resource efficiency, product life extension, reuse, recycling, and closed-loop systems. It highlights how these strategies are defined, structured, and communicated within the ISO framework to support a common language and methodological guidelines for organizations.

This presentation positions the circular economy as an enabler of the goals of the European Green Deal by analyzing which circular strategies are actively encouraged through policy instruments, legislation and market incentives.

The presentation highlights the relevance of key areas of influence within a company, such as design, procurement, operations, and decision-making, and directly addresses the question of how a company can initiate a transition plan toward a circular business model. A structured approach is presented as a practical and scalable transition strategy.

The proposed structured approach places particular emphasis on life cycle assessment (LCA), highlighting its importance for identifying hotspots and supporting decision-making throughout the transition process. Finally, real-world case studies are presented to illustrate how circular strategies can be systematically implemented and evaluated in practice.
