In the landscape of sustainable development, Circular Economy proposes a critical paradigm shift, challenging traditional linear models and paving the way for a regenerative and restorative approach.
This presentation highlights the need of the application of circularity in today’s global context, addressing challenges, proposing solutions, and showcasing the potential of applying the Material Circularity Indicator (MCI) methodology to the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of products.
Considering resource scarcity and increased awareness of climate change, the presentation dives into the practical implications of circularity, emphasizing its role in reducing waste, minimizing environmental impact, and fostering resilience in supply chains. Through case studies, the successful implementation of circular principles across diverse industries are shown, illustrating how companies have embraced circularity as a strategic model , and the benefits to their businesses (e.g., reaching up to 90% reduction of CO2 emissions).
With the existing challenges, this presentation offers innovative solutions and strategies for overcoming barriers to circularity. Circular Economy is shown not merely as a sustainability goal but as a viable business model, where organizations can thrive economically while simultaneously contributing to a more sustainable scenario.
Additionally, the Material Circularity Indicator (MCI), developed by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, is presented as a key tool in this transformative journey when positioned within the context of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). Through insightful analysis and interpretation of MCI data, businesses and policymakers can make informed decisions, aligning economic and environmental goals.
